About the Committees unit

Parliamentary Support Officers work in the Committees business unit of the Department, that provides research, procedural advice, and secretariat support to Legislative Assembly-administered committees. These committees conduct in-depth studies and inquiries on important issues, increasing public awareness and debate. Their work includes reviewing proposed laws, informing policy-making, and ensuring government accountability. Additionally, the unit aims to enhance public participation and engagement with parliamentary activities.

About the position

The Parliamentary Support Officer, Committees plays a crucial role in providing administrative, communications, and coordination services to support the operations of Legislative Assembly-administered committees. Within the Committees business unit, the officer will be responsible for performing a full range of administrative and clerical duties to support the committees in meeting their accountabilities of fiscal, legislative, and policy scrutiny, including:

  • managing committee records
  • organising committee hearings and meetings and providing other logistical support such as itineraries for committee travel
  • liaising with committee members, witnesses, and stakeholders
  • assisting with preparing committee publications and correspondence
