We are currently recruiting for a National Lead - Civil & Structural Engineer to be based in Sydney in a permanent position for our client operating in the Power Transmission & Distribution industry. As the Lead Civil & Structural Engineer, you will be responsible for leading and delivering high-quality civil and structural design solutions for substation projects. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and a commitment to design excellence and project delivery within the power infrastructure sector.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the end-to-end civil/structural design of substation and infrastructure projects—from concept to detailed design—with hands-on involvement in modelling, analysis, and design documentation.
  • Deliver foundation and structural design solutions, including pile foundations, footings, and structural supports.
  • Perform complex structural analysis and calculations using tools like SPACE GASS, ensuring compliance with project requirements and standards.
  • Actively participate in geotechnical assessments to inform sound design decisions.
  • Collaborate closely with electrical, geotechnical, and project engineers to integrate structural components seamlessly.
  • Prepare and review detailed engineering deliverables including drawings, technical reports, and specifications.
  • Maintain compliance with Australian Standards, safety codes, and internal quality processes.
  • Provide mentoring and technical support to junior engineers while still being deeply involved in the design work.
  • Participate in design reviews, constructability assessments, and technical meetings with clients and stakeholders.
  • Support proposal development and technical input for tenders where needed.

Required Experience:

  • Strong background in foundation design, structural detailing, and technical execution.
  • Proven ability to balance hands-on technical work with mentoring and team coordination.
  • Proficiency with structural engineering tools, including SPACE GASS and similar platforms.
  • Solid knowledge of Australian Standards and design codes relevant to civil and structural work.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly in technical discussions and client interaction.
  • Able to work autonomously and within a multidisciplinary team environment. Exceptional problem-solving, project planning, and risk management capabilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing deliverables, budgets, and schedules in a lead engineering capacity.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline is essential.
