EWON (Energy & Water Ombudsman NSW) is an independent, industry-based Ombudsman scheme providing free, informal dispute resolution services to energy and water consumers across New South Wales. The opportunity
The First Nations Partnerships & Engagement Lead is a pivotal role, responsible for strengthening EWON's engagement with First Nations communities across NSW. This role will lead the development and implementation of EWON's First Nations Engagement Strategy, ensuring the organisation builds meaningful, sustainable relationships with communities, organisations, and government stakeholders. You will provide strategic advice to internal teams, identify opportunities to enhance services for First Nations customers, and represent EWON at community outreach events. This position manages the First Nations Community Engagement Officer and contributes to fostering an inclusive, high-performing team culture. It is a unique opportunity to shape the way EWON delivers equitable outcomes for First Nations people across NSW.

About you
The successful candidate for this role will be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander leader, passionate about building meaningful First Nations partnerships and driving community engagement across NSW. You will be a collaborative and values-driven leader who brings:

  • Experienced in community engagement and building trusted partnerships with First Nations communities.
  • Skilled in developing and implementing stakeholder engagement strategies with measurable outcomes.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, fostering capability, collaboration, and a positive culture.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills across diverse stakeholders.
  • Strategic, solution-oriented, and adaptable, with a focus on equity, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
  • Confident working with government, industry, and community organisations to deliver real-world impact.
  • Flexibility to travel regionally and attend events outside standard business hours.
  • Knowledge of or interest in energy, water, or regulatory sectors is highly desirable.
  • Confirmation of Aboriginality, as this is an identified Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander position and a genuine occupational qualification under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
