Primary objective

As part of the central Freedom of Information (FOI) Unit, manage staff who handle NTG client agencies' responses to FOI requests under

the Information Act 2002 (NT), including receiving, administrative processing and coordination of complex requests, and liaising with and

providing advice to both applicants and agencies on the FOI process. Responsibility for progressing projects and initiatives within the FOI

Unit to improve services and increase efficiencies.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Oversee FOI applications on behalf of NTG agencies and the preparation of information for release, ensuring compliance with the

Information Act 2002 (NT) and other relevant legislation.

2. Effectively lead team members in the provision of FOI services, mentoring, coaching and training staff to build capabilities and

demonstrating behaviours to foster a collaborative working environment, through the provision of accurate advice, constructive

feedback and support for more complex matters.

  1. Foster a positive, customer focused workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour that aligns

to DCDD's customer values and enhances customer experience for agencies.

  1. Undertake analysis, innovate and implement solutions to complex FOI issues including preparing plans and approaches for remediation

and modifications to resolve problems, in consultation with agencies, FOI staff, applicants and the Office of the Information

Commissioner (OIC).

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated significant experience in managing complex FOI applications and applications to correct personal information under the

Information Act 2002 (NT).

2. Proven experience leading, mentoring and managing a team, with a focus on providing a high level of customer service and ability to

meet statutory deadlines.

3. High level of interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills and the ability to take a strategic viewpoint to policy development

and implementation.

4. Well-developed strategic, objective, analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills and a demonstrated ability to draw evidence-

based conclusions.

5. Highly developed organisational and time management skills with the capacity to effectively manage several projects and deadlines

with an ability to rapidly adapt to change.

  1. Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  2. Demonstrated work ethic and attitude which emulates DCDD values of commitment to service, innovation, ethical practice,

accountability, impartiality, diversity and respect.

Desirable

1. Tertiary qualifications in law or a relevant discipline, e.g. information management, business etc.

2. A sound understanding of the operations and structure of the Northern Territory Public Sector.
