The Public Relations Manager runs Viking's busy ANZ press office. This dynamic role manages all day-to-day media operations, proactive pitching across consumer and trade outlets, media famil planning and delivery, event logistics and supporting global and local PR campaigns that amplify the Viking brand. It is accountable for internal communications, media monitoring, reporting, and insight generation that informs decision making across the communications function.
This role reports into the Senior Manager, Communications and works closely with the Copy and Content Manager to ensure consistent messaging across owned and earned channels. This role also partners closely with Viking's global communications teams.
Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Operate the press office day to day including media list management, press release packaging and distribution, and triage of incoming media enquiries.
- Build and nurture relationships with top tier consumer and trade media and freelancers
- Manage a proactive pitch schedule to secure high quality coverage that aligns with brand priorities.
- Plan and deliver media famils end to end including target selection, invitations, briefing packs, itineraries, travel arrangements, on the ground support, and post trip follow up.
- Coordinate PR related events including media calls, briefings, press conferences, and partner activations.
- Prepare interview briefs and talking points aligned to message hierarchy and business priorities.
- Assist with issues response including drafting holding lines, coordinating approvals, and monitoring narrative shifts.
- Organise media training sessions when required
- Liaise with tourism boards, partners, and industry associations to coordinate announcements, asset sharing, and joint initiatives.
- Manage influencer seeding and small-scale partnerships
- Manage internal communication platform to share announcements across teams.
- Track coverage, share of voice, sentiment, competitors, and industry trends across print, digital, broadcast and social.
- Maintain timely reporting and campaign wrap ups with clear insights and implications for future activity.
- Represent the Viking brand at industry events and expos
Performance measures
- Volume and quality of coverage against plan including top tier placements and message pull through.
- Share of voice, sentiment, and competitive context with insight led recommendations.
- On time delivery of media famils, events, announcements, and reports.
- Stakeholder feedback on responsiveness, accuracy, and professionalism.
- Clean governance including list hygiene, approval trails, and budget adherence.
About You
- Experience: 4–7 years in public relations or communications (agency or in-house) with direct responsibility for press office activity, proactive pitching, and media event delivery. Experience in travel, lifestyle, premium consumer, or adjacent sectors is highly regarded.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in communications, PR or other related field
- Media craft: Strong news sense, copywriting, and story packaging skills. Proven results writing and placing impactful stories with tier one outlets across consumer and trade.
- Issues readiness: Comfortable supporting issues response and briefing senior leaders. Calm, structured, and discreet under pressure.
- Relationships: Comfortable managing media with professionalism and approachability.
- Operations: Confident maintaining media lists, release schedules, and coverage libraries. Skilled at building efficient day to day workflows.
- Measurement: Familiar with outcomes focused reporting that captures reach, quality, SOV, and sentiment with clear recommendations.
- Collaboration: Effective partner to cross-channel teams. Clear communicator who can manage up, across, and out to external stakeholders.
- Technology & Tools: Competent with media monitoring, newsroom distribution, analytics, and workflow platforms such as and Meltwater. Uses Copilot or equivalent AI tools to increase efficiency.
- Attributes: Detail focused, organised, proactive, and relationship oriented. Brings energy, follow through, and professional polish to every interaction.
- Travel: Willingness to travel for media events (including weekends and out-of-hours if required)
