The Department:

This Government agency plays a critical role in supporting Australia's economic and regulatory systems. Their People and Business Solutions Branch provides high-quality corporate support and works collaboratively to strengthen workforce capability.

The Role:

The Senior Payroll Officer (APS5) will be part of a small, collaborative HR Operations team responsible for delivering timely and accurate payroll services. This position is offered as a 12-month non-ongoing opportunity, with the option for a transfer for substantive APS employees.

The role can be based in either Canberra or Sydney.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Process end-to-end payroll and employee entitlements in line with APS policy and legislation.
  • Calculate leave, superannuation, long service leave and cessation payments.
  • Provide advice to employees on pay and conditions.
  • Prepare payroll and HR reports as required.
  • Support general HR administration and process improvement activities.

Your Skills and Experience:

  • Experience delivering end-to-end payroll services within Government or a large organisation.
  • Strong understanding of employment conditions and payroll frameworks.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy under pressure.
  • Excellent stakeholder communication and customer service skills.
  • Experience using Aurion is highly regarded
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
