Brisbane, Queensland, Australia McArthur Full time $90,000 - $120,000 per year
  • Implement Council's regional tourism strategic & planning initiatives
  • Competitive remuneration package offered
  • Relaxed, affordable country lifestyle

The Maranoa region in southwest Queensland is approximately 500km west of Brisbane, covers 58,830km and is home to approximately 13,000 residents. The region blends a proud agricultural industry with continuous expansion in the energy and tourism sectors. The area is also a regional hub and gateway to the outback and offers a relaxed and affordable country lifestyle.

Council is seeking a highly capable and motivated professional to lead the development, delivery, and marketing of tourism initiatives that strengthen the region's position as a premier visitor destination. This role is pivotal in driving strategies that increase visitor numbers, extend duration of stay, encourage repeat visitation, and boost overall visitor expenditure across the Maranoa. It offers an opportunity to make a significant impact on the growth and sustainability of the local tourism sector while contributing to the broader economic and community development objectives outlined in Council's strategic, corporate, and operational plans.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the identification, planning, and implementation of tourism projects and programs, while ensuring these initiatives are delivered to a high standard and aligned with Council's long-term vision. A key aspect of the role involves engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, from local tourism operators and businesses to community groups and government agencies, to build collaborative partnerships that drive shared outcomes.

You will have proven leadership experience in tourism, marketing, or regional development, with a demonstrated ability to mentor and guide a team in an environment that fosters collaboration, innovation, and professional growth. A strong knowledge of the tourism industry, including regional marketing, visitor experience, and product development, is essential, alongside the capacity to interpret and apply relevant strategies and policies to practical outcomes.

Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills are required, along with the capacity to resolve complex issues, build strong partnerships, and achieve shared goals.

Tertiary qualifications in tourism, marketing, events, economic development, or a related field along with substantial experience in a similar role are highly desirable.

This role offers the opportunity to shape tourism growth in the Maranoa region, enhance visitor experiences, and deliver lasting economic and community benefits.
