Our client is a fast-growing defence technology company developing advanced electronic systems powered by AI, ML, and digital signal processing. Their products are deployed globally to protect critical infrastructure, governments, and enterprises from emerging airborne and electronic threats.

As part of their rapid expansion, they are seeking a
FPGA Engineer
to join their Sydney-based engineering team. This role offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of embedded signal processing - building firmware and FPGA architectures that drive world-leading RF and sensing solutions.

About The Role

Reporting to the FPGA Team Lead, you'll design and implement FPGA-based systems that power real-time digital signal processing for next-generation RF and sensor products. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on turning complex DSP and ML algorithms into high-performance, production-ready firmware.

In This Role, You Will:

  • Design, develop, and implement FPGA-based systems for high-speed digital signal processing.
  • Research and optimise RTL implementations for DSP, ML, and statistical algorithms.
  • Contribute to the scaling of verification and validation frameworks within an Agile R&D environment.
  • Develop and optimise system performance for stability, latency, and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with hardware and embedded software teams to integrate FPGA designs into production systems.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering or related technical field.
  • 2+ years of FPGA design and development experience within an engineering team.
  • Strong skills in Verilog, VHDL, or SystemVerilog, including debugging and simulation.
  • Proficiency with FPGA development tools such as
    Vivado (preferred)
    ,
    Quartus
    , or
    Vitis
    .
  • Hands-on experience with synthesis, resource optimisation, and timing closure.
  • Strong grasp of
    digital signal processing
    and FPGA-based algorithm design.
  • Experience writing
    C/C++ firmware
    and scripting in
    Python
    .
  • Familiarity with Linux-based development and build environments.
  • Understanding of
    RF systems
    , transmission protocols, and embedded ML concepts is advantageous.
  • Exposure to PCB bring-up and board-level debugging is a plus.
