Role Overview
As Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for leading and managing the sales team to achieve revenue, customer growth, and market expansion. You will develop and implement effective sales strategies, coach and support team members, and ensure targets are met or exceeded. Your role will focus on building a high-performing sales culture, strengthening client relationships, and aligning sales activities with company strategy and profitability goals. You will also collaborate with technical, procurement, marketing, and operations teams to deliver seamless solutions to customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, motivate, and manage the sales team to achieve and exceed sales targets.
- Develop and execute sales strategies, action plans, and forecasts to drive business growth.
Monitor competitor activity, pricing, and market trends; propose strategic responses.
Build and maintain strong relationships with key accounts: installers, EPCs, project developers, dealerships, government agencies.
- Work with customers to understand their technical and commercial needs, propose tailored solutions.
Act as the escalation point for complex customer issues or large deals.
Liaise with procurement, product management, supply chain, technical support, and marketing teams to ensure offerings are competitive, deliverable, and aligned with market demand.
- Provide input into product roadmap, bundling, and value-added services based on market feedback.
Coordinate contract reviews, quotes, proposals, and project handovers.
Build and manage pipeline forecasts, deal stages, sales projections, and revenue targets.
- Report monthly/quarterly on sales performance, win/loss analysis, conversion rates, and growth drivers.
Continuously refine sales process, refine qualification criteria, and optimize resource allocation for maximum ROI.
Identify and negotiate partnerships, distributor agreements, strategic alliances, OEM or reseller deals.
- Explore collaborations with financing partners, energy services companies, or government grant programs.
- Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and forums to build brand visibility and network.
Qualifications & Skills
Essential:
- Proven track record (5+ years) in B2B sales / business development in renewable energy, electrical wholesale, or engineering sectors.
- Strong understanding of solar PV systems, inverters, batteries, mounting, and balance-of-system components.
- Technical aptitude to understand specs, sizing, performance tradeoffs, and speak credibly with engineers/installers.
- Excellent negotiation, presentation, and communication skills.
- Experience managing sales pipelines, forecasting, closing large deals.
- Self-starter attitude, ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
- Willingness to travel (within region / interstate) to meet clients, attend events, and site visits.
Desirable:
- Experience in large-scale / commercial / industrial solar project sales.
- Experience managing a small team or mentoring junior sales staff.
- Proficiency with CRM tools, quoting systems, and analytics.
