Disability Support Worker

Are you a compassionate and skilled support worker with a passion for empowering vulnerable youth?
At GSL, we believe every child deserves a safe, nurturing environment where they can thrive, no matter their ability. We're on a mission to build brighter futures—one home, one child, one relationship at a time.
Our Mission
To transform the way disability is perceived and experienced in our communities.
Our Vision
Purpose. Belonging. Security.
We are committed to creating strong, trusting relationships with the children and young people in our care. Our work is grounded in empathy, guided by trauma-informed principles, and focused on safety, stability, and connection. We exist because not all children born with or acquiring a disability have access to the secure, loving foundation they deserve. We're here to change that.
The Role: Disability Support Worker – Residential Youth Care
We're seeking passionate, reliable, and child-safe Disability Support Workers with experience in supporting children and young people with complex physical, intellectual, and mental health needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver person-centred care in a therapeutic, residential setting.
Support children and young people with daily routines, personal care, learning, and recreation.
Develop and implement tailored support plans that promote independence, dignity, and growth.
Foster a safe, predictable, and nurturing home environment aligned with child safeguarding frameworks.
Build trusted relationships through empathy, consistency, and positive role modelling.
Promote social inclusion and facilitate meaningful participation in community life.
Accurately maintain records and contribute to team-based planning and reviews.
Manage challenging behaviours with calm, confidence, and a trauma-informed mindset.
Be the steady presence they can count on—no matter the kind of day.
What You Bring:
A deep understanding of disability and its intersection with childhood trauma and development.
Experience supporting high-needs individuals, including behaviours of concern.
Emotional resilience, adaptability, and the ability to stay cool under pressure.
A collaborative mindset and a commitment to child-safe, strengths-based support.
A good sense of humour—because joy is part of healing, too.
Mandatory Requirements:
LCS2 (or willing to obtain)
Paid Blue Card (Working with Children Check)
NDIS Worker Screening (Yellow Card)
Current, unrestricted driver licence
Certificate IV in Disability Support, Youth Work or a related field (or working towards it)
Unrestricted working rights in Australia
Why Join GSL?
We prioritise the safety and well-being of both our clients and our team. Our work is underpinned by The Sanctuary Model, a leading trauma-informed framework that nurtures emotional, physical, and cultural safety for all.
We're proud to offer:
A values-driven, inclusive team environment
Ongoing training and development
Opportunities to make a lasting impact in the lives of young people
We're Looking For People Who:
Want to make a real and lasting difference in the lives of children and young people with disabilities.
Are flexible, reliable, and willing to work across days, evenings, weekends, and overnights.
Bring authenticity, kindness, and professionalism to everything they do.
Are ready to show up—fully, consistently, and with heart.
