The company
Align Talent has been exclusively engaged to recruit a highly driven and hands-on Head of Finance for a fast-paced and rapidly growing entrepreneurial technology business based in inner Melbourne. Our client is a dynamic and progressive business, who have consistently grown over a number of years. They require a Head of Finance to look after their financial operations, planning, reporting and analysis.
The role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for someone to join the organisation as a Head of Finance. The role is available as a permanent full-time position. You will be part of a team of high-performing professionals and you will oversee a small team. You will report directly to the Founder and you will have direct exposure to the senior management of the business. You will take ownership of the end-to-end finance function from a day-to-day perspective. There is significant scope for personal and professional development for the right candidate. Diverse in nature, the role will cover a range of technical and commercial accounting duties. You will be required to manage key relationships, both internally and externally, and across all levels. The role will include elements of both hands-on and strategic duties, as well as some leadership duties.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Oversee the financial operations and reporting of the business
- Manage and motivate a small team - develop the broader accounting and finance function, managing work allocation, training and service delivery - ensuring a dynamic work environment and culture
- Oversee all financial KPIs and ensure accuracy, compliance and efficiency in finance processes
- Oversee and lead all preparation and submission of tax compliance
- Oversee and lead the monthly management accounts, annual budgets and rolling forecasts
- Provide insightful financial analysis to guide leadership and Board decisions
- Provide financial insight on pricing, product strategy and investment decisions
- Partner with leadership to evaluate growth opportunities and bring strategic recommendations to optimise financial performance
- Continually review the company's accounting practices and policies
- Ensure effective internal controls are maintained
- Ad-hoc project work
The successful candidate
In order to secure this position, you will be hands on, commercially-minded and technically strong. You will be adaptable and place a strong emphasis on relationship building and business partnering across all levels. You will be confident interacting at the senior level and able to drive outcomes and processes for the business. The following will be favourably looked upon:
- CA/CPA qualifications
- Relevant industry experience in a fast-paced, high growth SME environment
- Experience in technology or a recurring-revenue model is advantageous but not essential
- Experience within a big 4 or mid-tier accounting firm is advantageous - as is any US reporting experience
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong Excel and systems skills
- Staff management experience
- Stakeholder management experience across all levels
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
