The team is seeking an RMIT student for the role of Studio Assistant Engagement Officer.
The role involves peer-to-peer mentoring, contributing to a collaborative and inclusive environment and assisting with the school's Learning and Teaching (L&T) functions.
In addition to offering direct support to staff and students, the Studio Assistant Engagement Officer will help maintain studio assistant shifts and ensure engagement with planned activities. The role acts as a key liaison between the student assistant cohort, students, management, and academic staff, ensuring open communication and a seamless flow of information. By helping maintain a productive and supportive environment, this role will play an important part in advancing AUD's culture of collaboration and excellence
Key Accountabilities
- Assist the Coordinator, Planning and Operations or delegate with maintaining rosters for studio assistants.
- Undertake special projects as directed by the Coordinator, Planning and Operations or delegate to improve the support and working model for studio assistants and deployment.
- Liaise with studio assistants to ensure shifts and work assignments are effectively supported and service maintained as per planned deployment schedules. Ensure shifts are filled when staff need to vary planned assignments.
- Monitor and liaise with studio assistants to ensure studio assistants receive effective training and education to support their task assignments.
- Monitor all school-based studio environments to ensure equipment is set up and operating effectively and maintained in a clean and safe condition by reporting issues to the Facilities team for action.
- Under the guidance of management, engage and liaise with academic community members to ensure studio assistant work and resources are aligned and complement teaching activities.
- Participate in Health and Safety training and support the education of students regarding occupational health and safety requirements in studio environments as directed by management.
- Provide general administration assistance to support School operations and general duties as required.

- Act as back up for peak workload support and contingency where studio assistants need assistance with workloads.
- Work under the direction and closely with the Associate Dean (Learning and Teaching) to ensure services and projects are delivering high level outcomes to our students and staff in a targeted manner.
Key Selection Criteria
- Good knowledge and expertise in current and leading studio-based activities associated with a design school.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to provide both written and verbal instruction to a range of audiences and represent both students and studio assistants feedback and concerns.
- A demonstrated willingness to deliver innovative and flexible solutions to staff and students.
- A willingness to take on new challenges and organise workload to ensure timely completion of tasks.
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of OH&S legislation and regulations particularly with respect to studio environments.
- Demonstrated current information technology skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work co-operatively as a member of a team with the ability to respond to the changing needs of the School.
- A great customer service ethic and ability to deliver great service outcomes to the School community.
- Interest in developing leadership skills under direction and supervision from senior staff in the School.
- Willingness to be mentored and take on a development role with senior staff's support.
Qualifications
Applicants must be current students in the School of Architecture and Urban Design
Knowledge of OH&S practices and safe working procedures would be an advantage.
Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children Check and other checks as required by the specific role. Maintaining a valid Working With Children Check is a condition of employment at RMIT.
