Studio Assistant

The team is seeking a Studio Assistant to join the team.
The Studio Assistant will be responsible for supporting staff and students with studio-based and blended learning activities, offering peer-to-peer mentoring, and assisting with the Learning and Teaching (L&T) functions of the school. The Studio Assistant will contribute to fostering AUD's culture by helping create collaborative and inclusive environment for all students. Additionally, the Studio Assistant will assist with associated teaching and learning activities, events, exhibitions, and the operation and preparation of equipment in studio and exhibition spaces.
The Studio Assistant team will ensure that all school-based studio environments are properly set up and functioning, reporting any identified issues to the Facilities team. Studio Assistants must perform tasks in accordance with University processes and Occupational Health and Safety requirements
Key Accountabilities
- Support student enquiry hot desk as assigned by rosters.
- Provide ad-hoc assistance to School events and student representative committees.
- Provide assistance, support, and instruction to students and staff in relation to current and leading studio-based technologies.
- Provide peer-to-peer mentoring to students and assist with the Learning and Teaching (L&T) functions of the school.
- Assist with the preparation of studios and equipment to ensure students and staff are able to achieve positive learning and teaching outcomes.
- Provide first-level support to staff using learning technologies in studio spaces (e.g., audiovisual hardware and software). Proactively monitor the status of learning technologies in teaching spaces. Notify Facilities and IT Services of maintenance and service requirements. Follow up on all support requests to ensure timely resolution. Use assigned escalation paths as appropriate to ensure all customer requests are actioned in a timely manner.
- Monitor all school-based studio environments to ensure equipment is set up and operating effectively and maintained in a clean and safe condition by reporting issues to the Facilities team for action.
- Participate in Health and Safety training and support the education of students regarding occupational health and safety requirements in studio environments as directed by management.
- Provide general administration assistance to support School operations and perform general duties as assigned from time to time.
- Work under the direction and closely with the Associate Dean (Teaching and Learning) to ensure services and projects are delivering high level outcomes to our students and staff in a targeted manner
Key Selection Criteria
- Good knowledge and expertise in current and leading studio-based activities associated with a design school.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to develop and deliver instructional support, training to a fellow students and staff.
- A demonstrated willingness to deliver innovative and flexible solutions to staff and students and follow through assignments to completion efficiently and effectively.
- A willingness to take on new challenges and organise workload to ensure timely completion of tasks.
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of OH&S legislation and safe working practices with respect to studio environments.
- Demonstrated current information technology skills and working knowledge of the printing systems and software applications used in the School academic disciplines
- Demonstrated ability to work co-operatively as a member of a team with the ability to respond to the changing needs of the School.
- A great customer service ethic and ability to deliver great service outcomes to the School community.
Qualifications
- Appointees must be current students in the School of Architecture and Urban Design.
- Knowledge of OH&S practices and safe working procedures would be an advantage.
Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children Check and other checks as required by the specific role. Maintaining a valid Working With Children Check is a condition of employment at RMIT.
