About the Department
The Department's Multilateral Policy and Human Rights Division leads Australia's engagement on global policy and human rights issues. Within this division, the Multilateral Strategy and Candidacies Branch drives Australia's strategic involvement in the multilateral system, including engagement with the United Nations and the Commonwealth of Nations.
The United Nations Security Council Campaign Section leads Australia's bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for The team advances Australia's multilateral priorities, coordinates diplomatic engagement across our international network, and delivers the campaign strategy in collaboration with partners in the UN, the Australian Public Service, and like-minded nations.
The Communications Officer will play a key role in supporting this work - delivering high-quality campaign content, coordinating events, managing branding and design outputs, and overseeing merchandise production and distribution to strengthen Australia's campaign presence.
Key Duties
- Execute the UNSC Campaign Communications Strategy through content creation, stakeholder engagement, and message delivery.
- Draft and edit communications products including talking points, media releases, social media content, speeches, and campaign collateral.
- Lead design and production of branded materials including digital assets, print products, and merchandise.
- Support coordination of campaign events and launches, including logistics, branding, design, and stakeholder engagement.
- Manage campaign merchandise, including sourcing, design, distribution, inventory tracking, and supplier coordination.
- Undertake procurement and contract management activities for merchandise and design services, in line with DFAT policies and Commonwealth Procurement Rules.
- Liaise with Posts and Canberra-based divisions to coordinate messaging and approvals.
- Monitor campaign communications performance and contribute to reporting and evaluation.
- Provide advice on strategic messaging, branding, and communications risks.
- Contribute to internal communications and team planning.
Capabilities & Experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience in drafting for institutional communications channels.
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and deliver under limited direction.
- Experience in strategic communications, public diplomacy, or media engagement.
- Proven graphic design skills, including proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and InDesign.
- Experience in event coordination and branded merchandise production.
- Familiarity with procurement processes and contract management in a government context.
- Understanding of multilateral issues and Australia's foreign policy priorities.
- Ability to work collaboratively across teams and with external stakeholders.
- Experience with digital communications and social media platforms is desirable.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop, to support development of strategic messages for communications products like social media.
