We are seeking a meticulous and reliable Accounting Officer to manage day-to-day financial operations and support the organisation's financial compliance and reporting obligations. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting business sustainability, ensuring accuracy in financial processes, and maintaining records in line with ASQA, CRICOS, and RTO Standards 2015 and 2025 requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process accounts payable and receivable, including invoicing, receipts, and payments
- Reconcile bank statements, student fee payments, and financial ledgers regularly
- Assist in preparing monthly financial reports, budgets, and cash flow forecasts
- Ensure timely payment of wages, superannuation, BAS, GST, and PAYG obligations
- Support the preparation of financial documentation for audits and compliance reviews
- Maintain student financial records and work closely with the admissions and compliance teams to ensure fee transparency
- Monitor outstanding student fees and follow up on payment plans and debt recovery processes
- Liaise with external accountants, auditors, and tax agents as required
- Ensure compliance with Australian accounting standards, ASQA financial viability requirements, and RTO reporting obligations
- Assist in maintaining financial policies and internal control procedures
Requirements:
- Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum 2 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience (RTO or education sector preferred)
- Solid understanding of Australian taxation (GST, PAYG, BAS) and accounting compliance requirements
- Proficient in accounting software such as Xero, MYOB, or QuickBooks
- Strong Microsoft Excel and general IT skills
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to meet deadlines
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for liaising with staff, students, and third parties
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion
Desirable:
- Experience working in a CRICOS-registered RTO environment
- Knowledge of student management systems (e.g., aXcelerate, Wisenet) for finance integration
- Understanding of the financial compliance obligations under the Standards for RTOs 2025
