Role Overview
We're seeking a dynamic and commercially savvy General Manager to lead Cablemakers nationally. This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for driving business performance, operational excellence, supplier engagement, and strategic alignment with BGW Group's vision.
You'll be the driving force behind Cablemakers' continued success enhancing our reputation as the go-to cable supply partner, expanding our project capabilities, and strengthening supplier partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute the annual business strategy aligned with BGW Group objectives.
- Drive supplier consolidation and establish preferred supplier agreements.
- Identify and pursue growth opportunities, particularly in project cable and long-term contracts.
- Represent Cablemakers at key leadership and supplier forums.
Commercial & Supplier Management
- Lead procurement strategy and supplier performance to protect margins and align supply chains.
- Oversee pricing, forecasting, and contract negotiations with manufacturers and importers.
- Ensure robust commercial governance, reporting, and spend control.
Operational Excellence
- Set and maintain national performance standards across four state-based facilities.
- Ensure superior turnaround times, inventory availability, and safety compliance.
- Champion continuous improvement, investment in cutting technology, and digital optimisation.
Project Enablement & Sales Support
- Collaborate with BGW Group branches to support major projects with full-order and staged delivery models.
Promote Cablemakers' value proposition and project capabilities across the network.
Engage regularly with CNW and Sherriff regional leadership to review pipeline and share success stories.
People & Culture
- Lead a high-performing, multi-site national team with a culture of accountability and service excellence.
- Foster talent development and maintain high levels of employee engagement.
- Be a visible advocate for Cablemakers across the BGW Group.
Skills & Experience
- Proven leadership experience in distribution, electrical wholesale, or industrial supply sectors.
- Strong commercial acumen with supplier negotiation and P&L ownership.
- Experience managing multi-site operations and logistics.
- Deep understanding of project supply chains and customer service models.
- Exceptional relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Knowledge of electrical cable products and market dynamics (highly desirable).
