Hours: Full-time, 38 hours per week, plus any reasonable additional hours

Purpose of the Position: The Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing the finance department's daily operations, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and efficiency in all financial processes and transactions. This role demands strong leadership, technical expertise, and effective communication to manage a team of finance professionals while supporting HECSA's financial goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Team Leadership: Supervise and coordinate the finance team's activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and financial reporting, ensuring tasks are completed accurately and on time.
  2. Mentorship: Provide leadership and guidance to finance team members, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  3. Financial Reporting: Preparation and review of financial statements, reports, and analyses, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.
  4. Month-End and Year-End Processes: Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation, to meet reporting deadlines.
  5. Financial Analysis: Monitor and analyse financial performance, variances, and trends, providing insights and recommendations to management for strategic planning and decision-making.
  6. Policy Development: Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and controls to mitigate risks, improve efficiency, and ensure compliance with internal controls and audit requirements.
  7. Budgeting and Forecasting: Coordinate the annual budgeting and forecasting processes, collaborating with department heads and management to develop accurate financial plans.
  8. External Liaison: Act as the main point of contact with external auditors, tax authorities, and regulatory agencies, facilitating audits, inquiries, and compliance reviews.
  9. Professional Development: Stay current on accounting standards, tax regulations, and industry best practices, ensuring the finance team's knowledge and skills remain up-to-date.
  10. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with operations, sales, and procurement teams to support business initiatives, assess financial implications, and optimise resource allocation.

Skills and Experience:

  1. Educational Background: Diploma or equivalent qualification; a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred. CPA or relevant professional certification is also preferred.
  2. Leadership Experience: Proven experience in a finance leadership role, with a track record of managing teams and driving financial performance in a dynamic environment.
  3. Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and regulatory requirements, with the ability to apply them effectively.
  4. Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with expertise in interpreting financial data, identifying trends, and providing strategic recommendations.
  5. Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of interacting confidently with stakeholders at all levels.
  6. Technical Proficiency: Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office 365 applications, with advanced Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.
  7. Time Management: Ability to prioritise tasks, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  8. Leadership Qualities: Integrity, professionalism, resilience, and adaptability, with a commitment to fostering a positive team culture.
  9. Attention to Detail: High attention to detail and accuracy in financial calculations, reporting, and documentation.

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience with ERP or accounting software (e.g., MYOB/MYOB Acumatica).
  • Proven experience in a finance leadership role.

Non-Essential Requirements:

  • CPA or relevant professional certification.
  • Experience within the healthcare industry.
