Primary objective
Provide expert advice, leadership, strategic direction, and team management in the development of policy, particularly regarding
prevention and wellbeing, and its articulation into programs and services to promote health for Territorians.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. In collaboration with other NT Health units and external stakeholders, ensure policies and programs are evidenced based and
appropriate research and evaluation is undertaken to monitor policy/program outcomes.
2. Provide clear direction and advice on wellbeing, health promotion, chronic conditions and prevention policy and health literacy
matters to the Minister, DoH Executive, the NT Health sector and other stakeholders.
3. Form high-level partnerships and strategic alliances that contribute to improving health and wellbeing outcomes of Territorians
through wellbeing and prevention.
4. Play a key role as a member of the Public Health leadership team and contribute to collective decision making.
5. Participate and represent DoH on territory-wide and national committees, working groups and forums to inform and contribute
to wellbeing, health promotion and prevention policy, research and program development.
6. Provide effective leadership and support to ensure a coordinated and comprehensive approach to policy and program
development of health promotion and prevention across the lifespan; creating healthy environments; and reducing at risk
behaviours of Territorians.
- Effectively manage the deployment of human and financial resources of Preventive Health Strategy Unit team to optimise
efficiency and meet policy and program objectives.
- Follow defined service quality standards and workplace health and safety policies and procedures relating to work being
undertaken to ensure high quality safe services and workplaces.
- Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Degree or postgraduate qualification in health promotion, public health, or related disciplines.
- Extensive experience in prevention and health promotion policy, including the ability to provide advice on developing,
implementing, and evaluating wellbeing, health promotion and prevention polices strategies and programs.
- Contemporary knowledge of prevention, health promotion, public health, and community development principles in relation to
policy/program planning, implementation, and evaluation across urban/rural and remote settings.
4. Demonstrated expertise ability to lead and work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team in a cross cultural and complex
environment.
5. Substantial experience in leading collaborative partnerships and a well- developed capacity to consult and negotiate effectively
on complex issues with a variety of audiences.
- Highly developed written and oral skills and ability to communicate effectively with staff and strategic partners.
- Demonstrated financial and human resources management skills.
Desirable
1. Qualifications/experience in policy development, project management, health services management.
