Our Regional Delivery Team in Greater Sydney is currently seeking to appoint a Senior Natural Resources Officer (Floodplain Management) to support delivery of the NSW Floodplain Management Program.
About You
We are seeking a skilled Floodplain Risk Management officer to provide expert technical and strategic support to Councils and their Floodplain Risk Management Committees in the development and implementation of Flood Studies, and Floodplain Risk Management Studies and Plans.
This role involves offering high-level advice to regional staff and stakeholders, assisting in the development of operational policies, and supporting Councils in securing funding for practical flood mitigation strategies. You will ensure best practices are applied across all technical and policy advice, maintain accurate records for grant-funded projects, and monitor progress against milestones.
The position also includes preparing ministerial correspondence, contributing to environmental planning assessments, and facilitating the timely delivery of studies and plans in collaboration with Councils and communities. A key focus will be on integrating floodplain risk management with coastal and estuarine processes, maintaining technical excellence, and delivering high-quality, community-focused strategies that support environmental resilience.
To be successful in the role, you will have:
- Sound knowledge of floodplain risk assessment methods and floodplain
- management strategies;
- Sound knowledge of the Government's Flood Prone Land Policy, Flood Risk
- Management Manual and related guidelines and legislation;
- Understanding and experience in the application of hydrological and hydraulic
- models in analysing flood behaviour and flood hazards;
- An understanding of the application of NSW Government policy related to the
- application of flood risk in land use planning.
- Great communication and project management skills.
Essential Requirements
- Tertiary Qualifications in Civil / Environmental Engineering (or equivalent) and eligible for membership of Engineers Australia.
- Current drivers licence (Class C)
