Our Water group is currently seeking to appoint a Project Officer Regulatory Assessments in a full-time ongoing capacity.
The Water Group leads the NSW Government in providing confidence to communities and stakeholders with the transparent stewardship of water resources, provision of services and reforms that support sustainable and healthy environments, economies, and societies across NSW.
About the Role
The purpose of the Project Officer Regulatory Assessments is to support the coordination of regulatory assessments and the internal review process, communicating proactively with local water utilities throughout the process including publicly publishing assessment registers and departmental decisions, and working in partnership with customers and stakeholders to achieve great outcomes for the community. Knowledge and/or experience in the stages of project delivery and project governance for water, sewage and recycled water treatment projects and general treatment knowledge will be valued.
Key challenges include:
- Supporting a range of regulatory assessments within tight timeframes, limited resources, regulatory guidelines and competing priorities.
- Maintaining a sound knowledge of the legislation, regulations, and guidelines relevant to local water utilities.
- Implementing the Regulatory and Assurance Framework for local water utilities with a specific focus on Section 5 (treatment works approvals) and Section 3 (Strategic planning assurance).

You are a highly organised and proactive professional with a passion for regulatory excellence and community outcomes. With a sharp eye for detail and a collaborative mindset, you thrive in environments where coordination, communication, and continuous improvement are key. You bring a strong understanding of regulatory frameworks, particularly those relevant to local water utilities and are confident navigating complex documentation and stakeholder relationships.
Your ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines is matched by your commitment to transparency and service. You're comfortable liaising with technical experts, guiding stakeholders through regulatory procedures, and ensuring that every step of the assessment process is clear, efficient, and aligned with performance targets.
