Who we are

The Science and Australian National Botanic Gardens Branch leads science and conservation planning and policy for Parks Australia and conducts research in conservation and biodiversity management through a range of programs. We engage in and coordinate diverse research partnerships and ensure First Nations knowledge and innovative solutions are core to our work, enabling us to enhance engagement and embed science into decision-making at all levels.

The Job

These roles are to support the field collection season and will be filled as non-ongoing positions for a period of six months. There will be opportunities for part-time work.

The Grasslands Project Officers will support the National Seed Bank team to deliver on its work with 'Lowland Grassy Ecosystems seed collection, banking and research' project. The role will involve the following tasks over the coming collection season;

  • Collect seed from in situ populations to build on existing collections or establish new ex-situ seed collections at the National Seed Bank,
  • Assist with compilation of fact sheets for each target species, the purpose of which is to assign a conservation management decision to each species,
  • Support engagement with local traditional owners and foster their involvement in the collecting process,
  • Flexibly support the work of the National Seed Bank through its collection season and assist with administrative and databasing tasks as required,
  • Work collaboratively with the National Seed Bank team, the ACT Government, and other areas of Parks Australia.

An interest and enthusiasm for the deeper understanding of the conservation and management of threatened grassland ecosystems will be advantageous.
