Position Purpose

The Head of Operations is a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, responsible for leading and streamlining HFHA's operational functions. This role ensures that systems, policies, and ways of working are aligned with strategic goals and are simplified to support efficiency, compliance, and impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership: Lead and oversee core operational functions including IT, HR, finance, risk, and compliance.
  • Policy and Systems Oversight: Develop, implement, and maintain organisational policies and systems that are fit-for-purpose, scalable, and compliant with regulatory and donor requirements.
  • Ways of Working Simplification: Drive continuous improvement initiatives to simplify internal processes, reduce duplication, and enhance cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strategic Planning & Execution: Support the CEO and Board in operationalising strategic plans and ensuring alignment across departments.
  • Safeguarding & Risk Management: Champion HFHA's safeguarding policies and risk frameworks, ensuring a culture of safety and accountability.
  • People & Culture: Foster a high-performance culture through inclusive leadership, staff development, and values-based management.

Selection Criteria Essential:

·  Proven experience in senior operational leadership roles, ideally within the not-for-profit or international development sector.

·   Demonstrated success in policy development, systems implementation, and organisational simplification.

·   Strong understanding of compliance, risk management, and safeguarding frameworks.

·   Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills with a collaborative and strategic mindset.

·   Commitment to HFHA's mission and values.

Desirable:

·    Experience working in a federated or international NGO environment.

·     Familiarity with ACFID Code of Conduct and DFAT compliance requirements.

·    Report all safeguarding concerns to Habitat for Humanity's designated Safeguarding Officer.

Roles within Habitat for Humanity may involve different levels of direct or indirect exposure to vulnerable groups. The level of safeguarding measures required depends on the nature of the role. This is a: Low-Exposure Role.
