The Role
The Discipline Leader for Precision Effect Delivery (PED) oversees a team composed of engineers and researchers, with a primary responsibility of conducting research and development for guidance and control algorithms. These algorithms are critical for ensuring the precise delivery of effects by guided munitions.
Under the broad guidance of the Group Leader for Collaborative Weapons Technologies (CWT), the main responsibilities include:
- Leading, mentoring, and developing a high-performing team in the design, implementation, and integration of guidance, navigation, and control systems.
- Providing oversight of the design, simulation, and testing of precision guidance and control (PG&C) algorithms, models, and hardware.
- Fostering robust and collaborative partnerships with industry partners and academic institutions to develop staff skills and enhance industry capabilities in the areas of weapons guidance, navigation, and control.
- Engaging with a diverse range of Defence stakeholders to improve alignment with their priorities and shared interests in common science and technology (S&T).
Sensors and Effectors leads the impetus for innovation within Australian force operations by providing science and technology (S&T) advice about equipment, personnel and processes. The Intelligent Weapon Systems (IWS) Major Science and Technology Capability (MSTC) conceives and develops S&T capabilities to facilitate and enable the development, assessment and integration of intelligent weapon system concepts for precise prosecution of threats and assured delivery of effects, to enhance current and future Defence operational capabilities in complex and contested environments. The Collaborative Weapons Technologies (CWT) Science and Technology Capability (STC) is committed to advancing research and development in autonomy algorithms for weapons applications. Our mission is to pioneer novel collaborative weapons concepts and demonstrators that push the boundaries of innovation.

- A broad understanding of aerospace engineering, guidance, and control technologies, with a focus on collaborative weapons concepts.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a team of engineers and researchers, including aspects of career development, performance management, and day-to-day supervision.
- Experience in managing contracts with industry partners, with a proven track-record of effectively supervising and building relationships with contractors and industry.
