**The Role**
The Protected Satellite Communications Group seeks a highly motivated scientist or engineer to undertake research in laser satellite communications, working as part of a multi-disciplinary team. DSTG has a well-established research program to develop optical ground terminals and satellite payloads, to support our participation in laser satellite communications campaigns, encompassing engagement across a number of high profile domestic and international projects.
Participation in field trials, at local and/or remote locations, and engagement with collaborators and Defence clients may result in the requirement to undertake domestic and international travel.
**About our Team**
Information Sciences division drives and shapes Defence research capabilities in the areas of computational science, autonomy and cyber, communications and computing.
The division focuses on the following areas:
- Contested communications
- Cyber and signals intelligence
- Cyberwarfare operations
- Intelligence analysis
Information interoperability Contested Communications Major Science & Technology Capability's (MSTC) mission is to develop survivable tactical communications and electronic warfare solutions for contested and degraded cyber electromagnetic environments. Protected Satellite Communications (PSC) STC undertakes research and development of, and provides S&T advice on, satellite communications for resilient deployed and mobile tactical networking.
PSC research activities include:
- SATCOM Network Defence
- Laser Satellite Communications
- Future Satellite Communications Technologies.
- Experience, aptitude and interest in hardware system development and experimentation.
- Programming experience applied to one or more of the following: numerical modelling, data processing, data acquisition or hardware control.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in optical systems and lasers, with experience in space optical systems highly desirable.
- Knowledge of radio frequency satellite communication and systems.
- Experience working with industry and academic on innovation projects.
- A high level of interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team to achieve work outcomes.
- Ability and willingness to lead and participate in field trials.
