Primary objective

Lead the development, implementation and oversight of strategic policies and initiatives for countering violent extremism (CVE) in

the Northern Territory (NT), providing expert advice, research and coordination across government. This role is critical in advancing

the NT's approach to CVE and managing the department's responsibilities under related national funding agreements.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Lead the development and coordination of policies and initiatives to strengthen the NT's CVE arrangements in close

collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

2. Undertake research and provide critical analysis, strategic advice and commentary across CVE and counter-terrorism issues.

  1. Oversee the finalisation and ongoing implementation of the NT CVE strategy.
  2. Manage the department's responsibilities under the National Support and Intervention Program, including planning, reporting,

and stakeholder engagement and coordination.

5. Prepare and review reports, memorandums, briefing papers, talking points, Cabinet submissions and other high-level

documentation.

6. Represent the department in CVE-related meetings and working groups at both jurisdictional and national levels.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated experience in policy development and strategic analysis, with the ability to provide considered advice supported

by high level conceptual and analytical skills.

2. Well-developed organisational and project management skills, including the ability to use initiative, manage competing priorities,

meet deadlines and coordinate complex work programs.

3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with proven experience engaging effectively with internal and external

stakeholders at all levels to achieve shared objectives.

4. Strong written communication skills, with proven experience in preparing high-level documents such as briefings papers,

memorandums, reports, Cabinet submissions, and Ministerial correspondence.

5. Proven ability to handle sensitive information and maintain a high level of discretion and confidentiality.

Desirable

1. Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline.

2. Knowledge and understanding of the national and Territory security landscape.
