This organisation is a large, complex healthcare services provider operating across multiple locations and service lines. It delivers a wide range of clinical and operational services supported by a sophisticated digital environment and is progressing a multi-year transformation program focused on improving information flow, system connectivity, and care coordination. The organisation is investing in modern integration and interoperability capabilities to strengthen clinical safety, operational efficiency, and collaboration across internal systems and external partners. Digital initiatives are guided by a long-term strategic roadmap and a strong focus on secure, standards-aligned technology foundations.
The Head of Interoperability Platforms is accountable for the strategic direction, delivery, operations, and lifecycle management of the organisation's integration and interoperability services. This role provides leadership across platform strategy, architecture, governance, operations, and value delivery, ensuring reliable, scalable, and secure information exchange across clinical, operational, and partner systems. It plays a key role in enabling integrated service models, system-to-system connectivity, and broader digital transformation outcomes. The role oversees a portfolio of enterprise integration and interoperability capabilities, including:
- Patient and provider identity and reference data services
- API and service management platforms
- Messaging, integration, and data exchange services
- Clinical and operational data standardisation services
All platforms are governed in line with relevant interoperability standards, privacy obligations, security requirements, and the organisation's enterprise architecture principles.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy and Leadership
- Define and govern enterprise integration and interoperability strategies aligned to organisational objectives
- Lead the design and evolution of scalable, secure, and sustainable interoperability platforms
- Establish and maintain governance frameworks for integration, APIs, and data exchange
- Promote best-practice delivery and operational frameworks across platform teams
- Align interoperability initiatives with regulatory, privacy, and digital transformation requirements
Service Delivery and Lifecycle Management
- Oversee the full lifecycle of integration platforms and services, including planning, delivery, optimisation, and retirement
- Define architecture and operating models for enterprise interoperability capabilities
- Ensure effective change, release, and operational support processes
- Lead incident, problem, and service continuity management for critical integration services
- Drive continuous improvement through performance monitoring and adoption of emerging technologies and standards
- Define and track service performance metrics covering reliability, security, and operational effectiveness
Stakeholder and Vendor Management
- Build strong relationships with clinical, operational, and digital stakeholders
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders on integration strategy, platform investment, and delivery priorities
- Manage strategic vendor and delivery partner relationships
- Represent the organisation in relevant industry forums and collaborative initiatives as required
- Balance innovation, compliance, and operational stability across diverse stakeholder groups
People Leadership and Culture
- Lead and develop high-performing multidisciplinary teams
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, learning, and continuous improvement
- Encourage cross-functional ways of working and shared ownership of outcomes
- Build internal capability in integration, APIs, messaging, and data standards
Financial and Commercial Management
- Manage operating and capital budgets for interoperability platforms and services
- Conduct demand and capacity planning, forecasting, and cost control
- Support investment decisions through business cases, cost-benefit analysis, and value tracking
- Ensure interoperability platforms deliver measurable business and service outcome
