Our services are particularly targeted to people who are disadvantaged, experiencing housing stress or at risk of homelessness.

We are currently in an exciting new growth phase with the significant planned expansion of our property portfolio. To support this continued growth, we have opportunities for Housing Officers to join our team.

As Housing Officer you will manage a range of tenancy and/or property functions across an allocated portfolio and provide professional and responsive tenancy management services.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Identifying and assessing customers' housing needs.
  • Providing information, advice and assistance to customers regarding their housing options.
  • Responding to resident issues and facilitating the resolution of disputes affecting residents.
  • Representing HousingFirst at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal when required.
  • Ensuring tenants understand their responsibilities with regard to rental payments.
  • Maximising rental income including pursuing rental arrears.
  • Conducting property inspections, and;
  • Ensuring effective and efficient allocation of new tenants to vacant properties.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Practical knowledge of Residential Tenancies Act 1997 (Vic) and the Victorian Civil Administrative Tribunal (VCAT).
  • Demonstrated experience in tenancy management of community, private or public housing.
  • Demonstrated experience in working effectively and compassionately with people with complex needs and challenging behaviours.
  • Proven ability to use interpersonal skills in everyday workplace situations.
  • Demonstrated sound written and oral communications skills.
  • Competency in administration skills such as database management, Microsoft Office and basic computing.
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline would be advantageous.
