Principal Policy Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Policy Officer for a 3-month contract to contribute to our important work. The ideal candidate will be a proactive professional with a strong background in policy, research, and stakeholder engagement, able to work effectively in a demanding and sensitive environment.
Key Responsibilities
As a Principal Policy Officer, You Will
- Lead the development, implementation, and review of policy initiatives.
- Undertake research and analysis to inform policy decisions and address systemic issues.
- Prepare high-quality, concise, and logical reports, briefs, and submissions for senior management and stakeholders.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including those with lived experience, to support and inform policy functions.
- Contribute to broader policy and systemic reform projects and initiatives.
- Maintain knowledge of current and emerging issues related to the policy area to develop timely and well-researched briefings.
- Work with a high level of confidentiality in a complex environment.
Key Skills And Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- Extensive experience in a policy development role, preferably at a senior level.
- Proven ability to manage complex policy projects from conception to completion.
- Exceptional analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly.
- Demonstrated stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills.
- A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g., in public policy, law, social sciences, or a related field).
- Knowledge of the relevant sector (e.g., criminal justice, social policy) or the ability to swiftly acquire it.
