About the Branch:
Student Support Branch has responsibility for overseeing education policy and operations across a broad portfolio, including student mental health and wellbeing, student behaviour, supporting students with disability and student engagement initiatives. This is a great opportunity to support the work of the branch in relation to student wellbeing, engagement and inclusion, and to learn more about the department's policies and initiatives to support students and families.
About the Role:
The Principal Correspondence Officer is responsible for the following key tasks:
- Monitor, coordinate and direct the daily flow of business to and from the branch inbox, in line with priorities set by the Assistant Director-General.
- Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence and requests from within the department, other government agencies, key stakeholders and the general public.
- Draft and edit briefing materials, cabinet submissions, responses to ministerial or departmental correspondence, policy or research papers, and input on departmental or government reporting.
- Provide advice regarding government and administrative processes, policies and procedures with regards to departmental correspondence and briefing.
- Work in a small team to provide support to the Assistant Director-General and the branch as a whole.
- Liaise effectively within State Schools Strategy Division, across the department and with external stakeholders.
About you:
It would be highly desirable for the ideal applicant will have the following attributes:
- Experience in, or ability to quickly acquire skills in, coordination or management of workflows, including managing the preparation of correspondence and requests.
- Excellent writing and reviewing skills with great attention to detail.
- Understanding of government and administrative processes, policies and procedures.
- Outstanding interpersonal communication skills and the ability to build and sustain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to operate in an agile environment with multiple competing priorities, while delivering high quality work.
