Corescan Powered by Epiroc is looking for a Chief Spectroscopist to play a crucial role in our Geoscience business line within Epiroc OreBody Solutions.

Corescan Powered by Epiroc is a global leader specialising in the acquisition, processing and interpretation of hyperspectral data, delivering advanced geological models that impact the entire mining value chain. The company offers its core scanning services through a fleet of mobile laboratories for real-time operations; and through a network of offices strategically located in key mining districts where samples are sent for analysis.

The Opportunity

This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced and motivated senior software engineer with a passion for technology, to extend and maintain Corescan's hyperspectral analysis software suite. Corescan develops cutting edge image processing and machine learning algorithms and pushes various technologies to its limits.

You will be joining a distributed, dedicated team to help forge our position as a global leader in the field. You will have the opportunity to contribute to design decisions and be willing to bring new ideas to the table. You will need a passion for technology and a solid understanding of computer science and information technology. The successful applicant's responsibilities will include:

Responsibilities

  • Translating algorithms developed by Corescan's data scientists (typically written in Python and C#) to optimised, production-level, native and web libraries (C++ / CUDA / Web Assembly), including integration with Corescan's and Coreshed's application suite.
  • Incorporating production algorithm libraries into Corescan's application suite and developing associated automated/GUI-based workflows
  • Design, document and implement viable solutions by studying requirements, conducting data-driven analysis and stakeholder engagement throughout the software development lifecycle
  • Research new technologies, advancements, and industry improvements to stay ahead of latest developments and enhance our products and services
  • Conduct code reviews to ensure supportability of existing and new features
  • Improve Corescan's operational elements by conducting systems analysis and recommending changes to software architecture, policies, and procedures
  • Participate in daily software engineering standups
  • Facilitate ancillary software development activities related to troubleshooting and workflow customization requests with Corescan's application suite

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Experience in image processing software development
  • History of distributed team collaboration
  • Understanding of software engineering design and documentation

Required Skills:

  • 5+ years' experience in Visual Studio modern C#/C++ software development
  • C library interoperability
  • Good knowledge of signal and image processing algorithms (Principal Components Analysis, fourier analysis, wavelet decomposition, enhancement, filters, feature detection, segmentation, object detection)
  • Good knowledge of machine learning algorithms and libraries (Support Vector Machines, Decision trees, Convolutional Neural Networks, including relevant pre/post processing techniques, such as data augmentation, whitening)
  • Strong knowledge of image processing libraries (preferably OpenCV)
  • Good knowledge of 2/3D graphics algorithms and libraries (projections, scene graphs, perspective transforms, elevation maps, textures, lighting, model optimisation, splines, etc)
  • Source Control tools (GIT preferably)
  • Good familiarity with unit testing frameworks
  • Agile development practices
