Primary objective
Provide high level assistance, advice, research, project support and quality control to the Director Crime Victims Services Unit for statutory
functions related to the Victims Register, Debt Recovery and Crime Victims Advisory Committee.
Context statement
The CVSU supports victims of crime in providing statutory functions under the Victims of Crime Rights and Services Act 2006 and the Victims
of Crime Assistance Act 2006; including the operation of the Victims Register, Debt recovery and promotion of the Charter of Victims Right.
The Victim Services Program Officer (VSPO) leads a small team to ensure accurate and timely provision of information to victims and
establishes and maintains stakeholder relationships to provide continual service and policy delivery.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Manage the operations of the Victims Register and Debt Recovery team to ensure compliance with statutory obligations and
departmental policies.
2. Deliver high-quality advice and guidance to internal and external stakeholders on legislation governing the Victims Register and Debt
Recovery functions.
3. Provide leadership and supervision to a small team, including workload management, performance reviews, recruitment, and
professional development.
4. Provide secretariat support to the Crime Victims Advisory Committee, including preparing meeting materials, drafting reports, and
managing committee administration.
5. Establish and maintain effective relationships with a broad range of stakeholders to support departmental priorities and improve
service delivery.
6. Undertake research, policy analysis, and evaluation to inform practice and contribute to briefings, ministerial correspondence, and
consultation materials.
7. Work in collaboration with key stakeholders to develop and maintain systems to ensure the availability of accurate and timely data to
support internal and external monitoring and reporting.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and manage a team for the achievement of common objectives.
2. Highly effective oral and written communication skills to interact with a wide range of stakeholders, including victims of violent crime,
support groups, service providers and other Government agencies.
3. Well-developed ability to plan and coordinate high workloads with changing priorities, with high-level problem-solving skills and ability
to use initiative.
4. Well-developed cross-cultural awareness and the ability to relate appropriately to people from a wide range of socio-economic
backgrounds.
5. Well-developed ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
6. Well-developed ability to interpret and apply legislation.
7. Demonstrated ability to research and analyse information and prepare relevant advice, recommendations, correspondence and
briefings.
Desirable
1. Knowledge of trauma informed practice in dealing with victims of crime.
