Berengarra School is an independent, not-for-profit, co-educational secondary school for students with social, emotional, and behavioural challenges who require an innovative and supportive learning environment.

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Human Resources Manager to lead the school's HR function and provide high-quality advice and support across all aspects of people and culture.

Reporting directly to the Principal, this position plays a key role in developing and maintaining HR policies and practices, ensuring compliance, supporting staff wellbeing, and contributing to a positive and professional workplace culture aligned with Berengarra's values of Hope, Belonging, Nurturing, and Success.

This is a highly rewarding opportunity to work in a leadership capacity while enjoying the flexibility of a part-time role (0.4 FTE). You'll have the opportunity to influence both strategic and operational HR outcomes — from recruitment and onboarding through to performance management, staff engagement, and compliance.

As a trusted advisor, you will partner closely with the Principal and Leadership Team to strengthen organisational capability, lead change initiatives, and ensure the wellbeing and engagement of all staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert HR advice and operational support across all aspects of the employee lifecycle.
• Lead the review and implementation of HR policies, procedures, and compliance frameworks.
• Manage recruitment, onboarding, performance development, and employee relations processes.
• Support leaders in handling complex employee matters with fairness and professionalism.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant employment legislation, Awards, and child safety obligations.
• Oversee HR documentation, contracts, and employment records.
• Promote a culture of wellbeing, respect, and inclusion across the school.
• Coordinate professional development and workforce planning initiatives.

About You

To thrive in this role, you will bring:

• Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources Management or a related field.
• A minimum of five years' generalist HR experience, preferably in the education or not-for-profit sector.
• Strong knowledge of Fair Work, Awards, and industrial relations frameworks.
• Proven ability to coach and support leaders in managing HR matters confidently and compliantly.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships.
• High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and attention to detail.
• Alignment with Berengarra's values and commitment to child safety and staff wellbeing.

Berengarra School is an independent, not-for-profit, co-educational secondary school for students who have had significant difficulties in mainstream education settings. All students who attend Berengarra School have social and/or emotional disability, that have contributed to their difficulties remaining engaged in education.

Berengarra School has two campuses, the Box Hill Campus with 50 Year 7-10 students studying the Victorian Curriculum and the Chadstone Campus with 30 Year 10-12 students where the Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC) and VCE Vocational Major (VM) is delivered.
