Bathurst Public School has a proud heritage as the oldest public school in the district. Having opened in 1853, the school has contributed to the city's rich history by educating generations of Bathurst's children. Bathurst Public School has 15 mainstream classes, five support classes, and 45 permanent staff, including itinerant teachers, the Home School Liaison Officer, and specialist teachers. On average, 14% of the student population identify as Aboriginal, and 17% of students have a language background other than English.
The school's leadership team is actively working towards promoting learning excellence through an evidence-informed approach to teaching, curriculum planning, implementation, and assessment. The school's strategic directions aim to ensure that teaching and learning programs are responsive to the diverse needs of students while aligning with syllabus requirements. By establishing consistent school-wide practices for assessment, the school seeks to effectively monitor student progress and support educational growth, enabling every child to reach their full potential. The school is dedicated to identifying and implementing the most effective explicit teaching methods that prioritise inclusive strategies. The goal is for all teachers to regularly utilise student data to assess achievements, track progress, and address wellbeing needs.
