The Tasmanian Community Fund (the Fund) was established in 1999 to invest in and strengthen Tasmanian communities. Since its first funding round in 2000, the Board has awarded more than $144 million to over 3,260 projects right across the State. The Fund is governed by the Tasmanian Community Fund Act 2005 and receives an annual reserved by-law appropriation. The Board has broad discretion to allocate funds to projects that contribute to vibrant, capable and resilient communities.
Board members play an important role in ensuring that the objectives of the Fund are met and that public money is used wisely to benefit Tasmanians. Members work together to guide the Fund's strategy, assess grant applications, and engage with communities across the State.
An exciting opportunity now exists for a Southern Board Member to contribute to positive, lasting change for Tasmanian communities. Board members share responsibility for the effective governance of the Fund. Key responsibilities include:
- Setting and reviewing the strategic direction of the Fund
- Reading, assessing, and approving grant applications
- Approving the Fund's annual budget and monitoring performance
- Attending site visits, presentations, and community events
- Contributing to Board reviews and providing feedback to support continuous improvement
- Promoting the Fund's objectives within the Tasmanian community.
The successful applicant will be based in Southern Tasmania and will demonstrate well-established community networks, and experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Contemporary governance and strategic planning skills together with demonstrated experience as a non‐executive director
- Understanding of complex social, economic and wellbeing needs of Tasmanian communities
- Legal, accounting, financial management, quality management, media/marketing or IT expertise
- Stakeholder engagement and community leadership.
