Your new role:
As a Clinical Nurse in our Surgical Care Unit, you will be pivotal in managing and delivering specialist nursing care for patients with complex surgical needs. You will practice autonomously while providing clinical leadership, coordinating care, and supporting quality and safety standards. Your role includes mentoring nursing staff, contributing to education and research, and driving continuous improvement within the service. Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver advanced clinical care and coordinate complex patient management autonomously
- Lead clinical decision-making and support nursing staff, including delegation and supervision
- Manage portfolios across clinical practice, education, research, and safety standards
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, incident investigations, and risk management
About you:
To succeed in this role, you bring advanced clinical expertise in surgical nursing and proven leadership skills. You thrive in complex clinical environments and demonstrate strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication abilities. A commitment to professional growth, education, and research is essential. Skills & Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) with current Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia registration
- Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent; postgraduate qualification or enrollment highly desirable
- Demonstrated advanced surgical nursing knowledge and clinical leadership experience
- Experience in mentoring, clinical education, and supporting nursing teams

The Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) is a tertiary health care centre providing care in most major adult specialties. We provide world class health care to Brisbane City's southern suburbs across emergency, medical, mental health and surgical services, including liver and kidney transplant.
We are nationally recognised for our expertise in trauma management and organ transplants and are one of Australia's leading academic and research health centres. The PAH as a major medical research precinct hosts Australia's most advanced medical research facility, the Translational Research Institute (TRI) as well as a new Clinical Research Facility for the discoveries made at TRI to be trialed in a safe clinical environment.
We're expanding our hospital to make sure everyone gets the care they need. We're adding more beds, modernising our buildings, and improving our spaces to treat kidney and cancer patients with all new services and facilities planned to open by 2027.
