Are you a skilled and compassionate Social Worker ready to make a meaningful impact in a dynamic hospital setting? The Nepean Social Work team is seeking an experienced Social Worker to join our Safe Assessment Unit (SAU), located within the Emergency Department, to deliver high-quality psychosocial care to patients and their families during times of crisis. In this senior clinical position, you will be responsible for the development and provision of comprehensive psychosocial assessment, intervention, and management for patients admitted to the SAU. You will also provide support within the broader Emergency Department as required by clinical demand.
This role involves working with complex cases that require advanced reasoning, autonomous decision-making, and the application of expert clinical judgement. You will play a pivotal role in supporting patients and families through the challenges of illness, hospitalisation, and recovery. The incumbent will also participate in covering the After Hours roster.

What You Will Bring To The Role
- Recognised Degree in Social Work and eligibility for membership of the AASW
- Demonstrated experience working in an acute hospital setting and extensive knowledge of relevant psychosocial issues. Extensive knowledge of the impact on the individual and family of sudden unplanned hospitalisation due to illness.
- Proven experience in crisis intervention, grief and loss counselling, conflict resolution, supportive and individual counselling. Strong skills in mediation and conflict management, particularly in relation to family conflict.
- Proven ability in applying sound professional knowledge and clinical judgement when performing novel, complex or critical tasks. Complex cases/ critical tasks will involve conditions and elements that must be first identified and then analysed to discern interrelationships before practice decisions can be made.
- Demonstrated capacity to provide clinical supervision
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to make clinical decisions within a short timeframe
- Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team; basic computer skills; proven time management skills; excellent oral and written communication skills
