About Us
Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District (NBMLHD) is a wonderful place to expand your career and grow your skills and knowledge. As a recognised leader in the healthcare industry, we provide a range of public health services to the Nepean, Blue Mountains, and Lithgow Region.
The Nepean Mental Health Centre provides inpatient care for people experiencing acute mental health issues through the short-stay Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre (PECC), the Acute Mental Health Unit, Mental Health High Dependency Unit, and Older Persons Mental Health Unit. We support our Patients by linking them to case managers for ongoing treatment and support within an environment appropriate to the person's needs.
NBMLHD Community Mental Health offers a range of specialised services for children, young people, families and older people, through our community-based services and health centres. Our multidisciplinary health professionals and case managers take a collaborative approach to mental health care by linking with their patients to work together and consult within an environment appropriate to the person's needs.
The Mental Health Social Worker New Graduate Program is a structured temporary 24-month full-time initiative designed to support early career social workers in developing core competencies across inpatient and community mental health settings within the Local Health District. Participants will complete two twelve-month rotations, gaining valuable experience in both acute care and community-based services.
The program encourages ongoing professional development and active participation in research, quality improvement, and audit activities. Regular supervision in line with Australian Association of Social Work (AASW) standards is provided, alongside opportunities to contribute to team meetings and service enhancement initiatives. Graduates will build strong networks with local health and welfare agencies and fulfill statutory responsibilities under child protection legislation, including appropriate liaison with the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) and the Child Wellbeing Unit (CWU).
Ready to make a difference? Apply now to join a transformative program that provides a comprehensive foundation for a fulfilling career in mental health social work. Empower lives, build resilience, and become a trusted advocate for those in need—your journey starts here.
