The Department's Land Use Planning Division is recruiting for aPlanning Administration Manager Level 6 (temporary – 6 months initial) and Planning Administration Co-ordinator Level 5 (temporary – 6 months initial) with the possibility of extension and/or permanent appointment.

The Planning Support teams at the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage provide front-line services to customers lodging planning applications to the Western Australian Planning Commission through Planning Online – this involves conformance and work-flowing of applications and assisting applicants. On an average year the teams receive over 9,000 types of applications, including subdivision, development, structure plans and scheme amendments. The positions being recruited for are leadership roles, meaning you would be responsible for providing high-level administrative services, and the day-to-day management of a team or teams of administrative officers.

This is pool recruitment process for permanent full-time, and fixed term full-time opportunities. This pool may be used to fill future similar permanent or fixed-term positions that may arise within the Department and across the WA public sector in the next 24 months from the initial date of appointment.

The Department's current vacancies are for positions based in Perth, and successful candidates would be based in the Department's Perth office, which is located in the central business district at 140 William St, Perth. People based in regional areas are welcome to apply to join the pool and may be considered for other similar roles in regional areas should vacancies arise in the Department.

Job Requirements

To be successful for these positions, you will need to demonstrate:

For Level 5:

  1. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage an administrative team.
  2. Experience in a high-level administration environment.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging trends in administration.
  4. Demonstrated ability to deliver customer-focused services in line with stakeholder and community expectations.
  5. Demonstrated understanding of business, financial, and human resource management.
  6. Demonstrate the behaviours within the leadership context as outlined below.

For Level 6:

  1. Experience in a complex administrative environment, with the ability to manage and prioritise workload.
  2. Analytical and problem-solving capabilities with experience in interpreting data, identifying trends and implementing process improvements to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency
  3. Knowledge of administrative principles and practice, including ability to interpret legislation, policy, procedures and the ability to provide technical advice to internal and external stakeholders.
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly, influence decision-making and build effective relationships.
  5. Experience in human resource management, finance and other business processes.
  6. Demonstrate behaviours in keeping with the Public Sector's leadership context.

Experience in the land use planning environment is desirable, but not essential.
