The Clinical Data Manager provides professional clinical support with an advanced working knowledge of data management, excellent communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work as part of a progressive multidisciplinary clinical service team. The position is primarily responsible for coordinating the collection, storage, management and distribution of clinical data for the Cancer Centre for Children (CCC) at The Children's Hospital at Westmead (CHW).

The Clinical Data Manager acts as a support person for the use and management of Oncology Patient Register Database (OPR) and the Clinical Trials Management System (CTMS). The Clinical Data Manager manages the Oncology Patient Register Database and several clinical research databases by undertaking a range of database management activities. The position performs regular queries on these databases as requested and may perform statistical analyses on the data from time to time. The data is used for multiple purposes including feasibility studies for new clinical trials, reporting of performance metrics to funding or regulatory bodies and reporting of clinical trial/research results.

The position plays an integral role in the transition of the CCC from paper- based to electronic clinical trial processes with the Advent of the new electronic medical record and electronic medication management systems. The Clinical Data Manager will also be the liaison person between the Clinical Research team of the CCC and the EMR Unit/Project Team. The position is responsible for the PowerTrials component of the EMR.

  1. Relevant tertiary qualification in a relevant field or experience in clinical data management or a combination of both.
  2. Demonstrated experience in clinical data management, familiarity with data systems (e.g. EMR CTMS), familiarity with oncology clinical trials and basic statistical analyses skills.
  3. Demonstrated ability to interpret study protocols to guide data management workflows and CTMS builds
  4. Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice/ICH Guidelines and all applicable regulatory requirements or guidelines pertaining to the privacy of health information.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously but support team objectives through effective communication.
  6. Exceptional organisational skills and accuracy in data management and ability to self-manage multiple deadlines and deliver data query requests on time with consistent accuracy.
  7. Efficiency in the use of computer applications and databases (especially Microsoft Access and Excel); with basic programming knowledge.
  8. Ability to problem solve, particularly at using information technology to improve process efficiencies.
