Founded in 1978,
Broome Regional Aboriginal Medical Service (BRAMS)
was the first remote Aboriginal Medical Service established in Western Australia. As an Aboriginal community-controlled health service, BRAMS has proudly supported the Broome community for over 40 years through holistic, culturally responsive healthcare.

Delivering over 40,000 occasions of service annually, BRAMS provides a broad range of programs including primary health care, social and emotional wellbeing services, and NDIS support. Guided by the core principles of Aboriginal self-determination, access, and empowerment, BRAMS continues to lead the way in community-focused healthcare delivery across the Kimberley.

About the Opportunities

BRAMS is seeking full-time
Health Promotion Officers
based in
Broome, WA
, with regular travel required to remote communities. These roles are vital to planning, delivering, and evaluating culturally appropriate health promotion initiatives across several community health priorities.

Reporting to the
Health Promotion Manager
, this position works across three key programs:

  • Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS)
  • Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD)
  • Cancer Prevention

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Delivering community health education and promoting healthy lifestyles
  • Planning and supporting outreach programs and local events
  • Facilitating sessions in schools, community centres, and clinics
  • Collaborating with BRAMS and external partners to develop culturally appropriate materials
  • Promoting participation in screening, smoking cessation, and other preventative health programs

About You

To qualify, you will bring experience in
health promotion, community education or public health
, as well as strong communication and engagement skills.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Relevant qualifications such as Cert III/IV in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, Health Promotion, or Public Health is desirable
  • Confidence delivering education sessions in both formal and informal settings
  • Willingness and ability to travel to remote communities
  • Ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and multiple projects

Additionally, the following skills and traits will be highly valued:

  • Strong cultural awareness and sensitivity
  • Community engagement experience in Aboriginal settings
  • Good organisational and planning ability
  • Reliability, accountability, and a collaborative spirit

This is a community-facing role well-suited to someone who is passionate about improving health literacy, reducing risk factors, and promoting wellness across Aboriginal communities.
