Primary objective
Deliver high quality, culturally responsive and effective Perinatal Mental Health services within NT Health
Context statement
The Perinatal Mental Health Consultation Service (PMHCS) provides tertiary level consultations for assessment and treatment planning
for women who have or are at risk of developing a moderate to severe mental illness and/or complex presentations. The PMHCS provides
expert knowledge and education to primary and other tertiary health providers. The PMHCS is located within the Adult Mental Health
Team as part of the Top End Mental Health Service.
The Employed Model Program offers a fixed 12-month contract with the PMHCS with a requirement to study a postgraduate certificate
in perinatal and infant mental health.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide comprehensive mental health assessments, treatment planning and brief interventions for women in the perinatal period.
- Prioritise and manage a caseload within a dynamic and evolving work environment to ensure timelines and health outcomes are met.
- Maintain accurate and up to date records through the use of computer-based client information management systems
- Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary role modelling behaviour and promotes and maintains a learning environment
through performance development of self and others.
5. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in
order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
- Commitment to complete a postgraduate certificate in perinatal and infant mental health.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Have relevant tertiary qualifications in, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Social Work, or Nursing/Midwifery that meets the
membership eligibility requirement of the Australian Professional Association and/or registration in Australia with relevant Health
Professional Board.
Demonstrate recent clinical experience and well-developed knowledge and skills in mental health.
Well-developed knowledge and understanding of the social and cultural issues, influences and sensitivities that influence health care
provision for clients and families
4. Demonstrated ability as a clinical resource person and role model to mentor and preceptor new and junior staff and students
5. Well-developed communication, interpersonal skills, negotiation and conflict management skills, with experience working in a
multidisciplinary team environment to achieve positive health outcomes.
6. Proven skills in using electronic information systems for maintaining accurate records with a high standard of accurate and proficient
documentation
Desirable
1. Previous training in perinatal and infant mental health
2. Postgraduate qualification in Child and Family Health, Midwifery, or Mental Health
