About the business
HDM Group are a construction company based in South East suburbs of Melbourne, completing projects throughout Victoria. Due to the growth of the company, an exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team. We undertake a wide variety of work, with majority of our work being self-performed – generally, our works include hard & soft landscaping, carpentry, concrete (pavements & structures) & small civil projects. Our clients include a number of Tier 2 & 3 Building Contractors, Developers, Civil Contractors, State & Local Government and also undertaking a variety of residential projects.
About the role
You will be working and reporting directly with our General Manager & Directors. Our ideal candidate should have great communication and organizational skills to meet strict deadlines, along with a good attention to detail. You will be responsible for managing our accounts department, with a wide range of daily tasks to be undertaken, including but not limited to the following:

Handle processing of invoices, accounts payable, and accounts receivable transactions

Perform reconciliations for bank statements, supplier accounts and credit card statements

Support month-end closing processes, including journal entries, forecasting, accruals, prepayments, and general ledger reconciliations

Manage and undertake weekly payroll processing and related reporting

Complete all ATO reporting, preparation and submission

Aid the company Accountant and Booking Keeper with audit preparation and annual financial processes

Provide financial assistance to project leads and the broader team as required
Skills and experience
-
At least 2 years of experience in an accounting or accounts officer position, preferably within the construction industry

Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities

Capable of working autonomously with a proactive approach

Thorough knowledge of accounts payable/receivable, GST, BAS, and reconciliation processes

Effective communication skills for collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders
-
Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite with basic knowledge of project management tools

Expertise in QBO or similar accounting software, along with advanced proficiency in Excel

Capable of working both independently and collaboratively in a highly dynamic environment

Detail-oriented and methodical, ensuring high accuracy in data handling

Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven setting

Proactive approach with strong problem-solving skills
