About the role

Start your journey toward a rewarding career as a Trainee Plant Operator with Orica, where safety, teamwork, and respect for the land and communities we work within are at the heart of everything we do.

This position is based at our Mount Isa Depot and follows either a 5-days-on, 2-days-off or 8-days-on, 6-days-off roster schedule. 

What you will be doing
  • Assist with receiving, storing, and issuing Class 1 explosives under supervision, following safety and legal protocols.
  • Help prepare explosives for transport by securely wrapping and palletising stock.
  • Learn to operate forklifts safely to handle explosive materials.
  • Support deliveries to work sites alongside experienced staff, observing transport and compliance procedures.
  • Contribute to depot tasks, including cleaning, equipment checks, underground deliveries, and basic documentation.

What you will bring
  • A positive, team-focused attitude, looking out for your mates.
  • Willingness to work in challenging environments (hot, dusty, underground).
  • Eligibility for a QSEC card and a national police clearance.
  • A medium or heavy rigid license is an advantage, but not essential.
  • A willingness to learn and be trained in what is an exciting new career opportunity.
