Our Operational Technology and Design team are seeking to appoint two Technical Officers to join their specialist team responsible for developing, operating and improving the technical equipment, systems and operating standards (being NRAR's 'operational technologies') that NRAR use to collect data (evidence) in the field and to process it.

Technical Officers work closely with frontline teams and investigators in the field, undertake administrative tasks as directed, and provide advice and recommendations to management to support the delivery of future technology projects.

About You

You possess practical experience or familiarity with technologies and equipment relevant to water regulation, such as hydrometric instrumentation, extraction metering systems, survey equipment, and process control devices. Your background includes work in water-related domains such as hydrology, hydrometrics, water planning, natural resource management, agriculture, or environmental science, with a demonstrated ability to apply technical knowledge in operational contexts.

You are proficient in delivering technology-based services under constrained timelines and resource limitations, while managing competing priorities. You understand how to assess operational requirements and identify fit-for-purpose technology solutions that align with regulatory objectives.

Your communication skills enable you to translate complex technical concepts into clear, accessible information for non-technical stakeholders. You are capable of balancing field-based data collection and equipment deployment with office-based analysis, reporting, and stakeholder engagement to support the objectives of the Natural Resources Access Regulator (NRAR).

Essential Requirements

  • A current NSW Driver's Licence
  • Ability to travel to remote locations in NSW
  • Willingness to undertake regular travel, including overnight stays in remote locations in NSW

Who we are

The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) works to protect the state's environment and heritage. It leads the way on climate change, driving the sustainable transition to a net zero economy, powered by affordable, reliable, and clean energy.

DCCEEW conserves and protects the state's natural environment. It manages the NSW national park estate, including its rich and diverse biodiversity and Aboriginal cultural heritage for future generations.

We acknowledge the ongoing custodial responsibilities of the Aboriginal peoples of NSW to care for Country and water and are committed to establishing meaningful partnerships with Aboriginal peoples in the management of the environment.

NRAR enforces the NSW water laws and offers guidance and education to help water users comply.
