Position Overview:
We are currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Technical Officer with a primary focus on Microbiology to join our laboratory team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a range of microbiological laboratory duties, with a particular emphasis on culture plate reading and the identification of pathogens using both manual and automated systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Specimen Processing: Receive, process, and manage microbiological specimens in a timely and accurate manner.
- Culture Plate Reading: Interpret culture plates to identify microbial growth, with a preference for candidates having a minimum of 2 years' experience in this area.
- Pathogen Identification: Utilise both manual and automated systems to identify pathogens accurately.
- Microscopy: Conduct microscopic examinations to identify microorganisms and provide critical information for diagnosis.
- Quality Assurance: Maintain meticulous records of laboratory procedures and ensure adherence to all laboratory safety and quality standards.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and calibration of microbiology laboratory equipment.
- Troubleshooting: Assist in troubleshooting technical issues and implementing effective solutions.
- Training: Participate in training programs to work independently and unsupervised, ensuring continuous professional development.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Science, Microbiology, Biomedical Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in microbiology, specifically in culture plate reading.
- Demonstrated proficiency in culture plate reading, specimen processing, and pathogen identification using both manual and automated systems.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, as well as independently with minimal supervision.
- Flexibility to work shifts and weekends as required.
