An opportunity exists at the Technical Officer (Observer) Level 2 at the Airport Observing Office. This position has responsibility for the performance of the scheduled observations and station maintenance program, instrument and routine maintenance, quality assurance of observations and oversight of the Regional AIFS quality control.

This role involves shift work providing manual observation coverage, 365 days per year.

As part of the Automation of Capital City Airports (ACCA) project, the Airport Observing Office will transition to full automation in the coming years and all staff will play a fundamental role in assisting in that transition, with tasks including clearing of Airport office, and liaising with network specialists within Observing Systems and Operations (OSO).

To be successful you will:

  • Have the skills, knowledge and competency to effectively perform meteorological aviation and synoptic observations.
  • A sound knowledge of, and practical ability to perform, surface and upper air observations and the maintenance of related equipment.
  • Have an ability to work in a team environment.
  • Have strong communication and liaison skills.
