The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is responsible for the statutory supervision of young people in the criminal justice system in Victoria focusing on prevention, diversion, and early intervention as the most effective and fiscally responsible ways of reducing youth crime.

The Youth Justice Learning and Capability team is part of the Transformation, Development and Capability business unit, responsible for transformation, learning and development to support employees. The team delivers training across Youth Justice Custody and Community areas, spanning induction training to refresher, upskilling and professional development training.

Learning and Capability's purpose is to enable staff to grow their capabilities through quality learning and professional development services, to better serve our community.

The Opportunity

  • Fixed term, full-time position until June 30th 2026, based in Werribee.
  • VPS Grade 5 role: $113,022 - $136,747 per year plus superannuation.
  • Managing and mentoring a team of new Senior Officers to deliver consistent, high-quality training.
  • Overseeing the delivery of Foundations and refresher training for Youth Justice Workers.
  • Ensuring training is aligned with operational needs, best practices, and compliance requirements.
  • Providing strong leadership, coaching and mentoring to a team of new Senior Officers, fostering collaboration and professional growth.
  • Build highly effective working relationships and collaborate across the department as well as strong working relationships with Youth Justice leaders.
  • Work locations include Werribee (primary location), Parkville and Cherry Creek as well as other training venues in the metropolitan West, South-West and Inner Northern Suburbs (availability to regularly teach across locations is a must).

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Facilitation skills, including coaching, mentoring and supporting others to develop these skills
  • Leadership capability including managing complex systems and people teams
  • A high-level knowledge of training and assessment processes, including the conduct of training needs analyses, workplace learning methodologies and mentoring systems.
  • Demonstrated capability in enhancing trainers' professional practice through targeted development programs, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (TAE) or equivalent is essential.
  • Project management, Leadership and Management qualifications or equivalent are desirable
  • A current driver's licence is required due to the need to work across different locations.

You will be required to obtain a Working with Children Check, which you will need to maintain for the period of employment.
