Focus of the role:

As a Senior Learning Portfolio Lead – 12 Month Fixed Term, you will be accountable the Telstra's technical learning portfolio - focused on aligning technical learning initiatives with the strategic capability needs of the business. You will drive this by:

  • Partnering with key stakeholders (e.g. business leaders, People Partners, Workforce Strategy, Talent & Skills teams) to understand current and future technical capability needs.
  • Translating strategic business priorities into targeted learning strategies that support Telstra's CF30 transformation and broader workforce strategy – equipping employees with the skills and mindset needed to navigate change and drive business transformation.
  • Partnering with key stakeholders across the organisation to ensure learning initiatives are aligned with business goals. Act as a trusted advisor, providing insights and recommendations on how learning can support the businesses strategy and increase technical skill.
  • Embedding change management principles into all programs to ensure business readiness and adoption.
  • Managing strategic external relationships with vendors, partners, and universities to optimise the technical learning portfolio.
  • Owning the scoping and discovery process to define learning needs, desired behaviours, and business outcomes, and leading the development of impactful learning solutions.
  • Uplifting the learning solutions we develop, through integration of mentors, projects, AI-driven practices and DE&I, etc.
  • Simplifying the learner experience through innovative design, technology, and AI-enabled tools to ensure accessibility, engagement, and ease of use.
  • Establishing and monitoring key performance metrics to measure the effectiveness of technical learning solutions. Use data-driven insights to continuously improve and optimise learning initiatives, ensuring they deliver measurable business impact and maximise ROI.
  • Managing the technical portfolio's learning budget effectively, ensuring resources are allocated to initiatives that deliver the highest return on investment. Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiencies without compromising the quality of programs.
  • Building your own capability in behavioural consulting, AI literacy, and digital fluency to stay ahead of emerging trends.  Stay up to date with latest L&D trends & research, best practices and methodologies, applying them appropriately within learning solutions.

You will also contribute to the Learning Leadership Team, bringing strategic thinking, curiosity, and a growth mindset to shape the direction and priorities of the broader Learning function.

As a people leader you will be focused on building and leading a high-performing team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence. Providing coaching and development opportunities to team members, ensuring they have the skills, capabilities and priorities to deliver.

This will be a 12-month fixed term opportunity, and you will be reporting to the Head of Learning.

About You

To be successful in the role, we are looking for the following skills and experience

Essential:

  • Strong business consulting and stakeholder partnering skills to define needs and influence outcomes.
  • Ability to design solutions with a strong end-to-end user experience lens.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design.
  • Experience applying Human-Centered Design (HCD) techniques in solution development.
  • Strong influencing and relationship-building skills across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Experience resolving issues across critical programs (both intra-team and with key stakeholders).
  • Proven ability to manage strategic vendor and partner relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience in data-driven decision making and using insights to shape solutions.
  • Excellent organisational and program management skills, with experience managing multiple complex initiatives.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on innovation and simplification.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to deliver focused, outcome-driven solutions.
  • Proactive in staying across evolving technologies and their impact on critical focuses of the role / team you are in.

Highly desirable:

  • Ability to develop learning strategies aligned to business outcomes.
  • Deep understanding of technical learning solutions and their impact on workforce capability.
  • Experience in learning evaluation and measurement methodologies.
  • Knowledge of the learning ecosystem and its influence on learner experience.
  • Experience with Workday Learning or similar platforms.
  • Understanding of licence management and managing technical learning resources.
  • Proven experience leading teams, including permanent staff and contractors.
