Canning Vale WA, Australia Genuine Disability Services Full time

Support Worker (Male) – Complex Child Participant (NDIS)

Employer: Genuine Disability Services (GDS)

Location: In-person – Perth, WA

Job Type: Subcontract / Casual

Schedule: 8-hour shift | Shift work

Position Overview

Genuine Disability Services is seeking a confident, physically capable, and emotionally resilient male Support Worker to support a child participant with complex behavioural and developmental needs under the NDIS.

The participant presents with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Intellectual Disability, and Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). These diagnoses contribute to high impulsivity, emotional dysregulation, and sensory sensitivities, requiring consistent structure, patience, and trauma-informed behavioural support.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining a safe, structured, and positive home environment, assisting with daily living routines, implementing behavioural strategies, and fostering independence through skill development. This includes meal preparation, home upkeep, and following structured interventions outlined in the participant's Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), Occupational Therapy (OT), Psychology, and Speech Pathology reports.

Incoming staff must be equipped to manage challenging and unpredictable behaviours, remain calm under pressure, and demonstrate maturity and professional boundaries at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent, direct in-home support to the child, including personal care and daily living assistance.
  • Implement and follow individualised plans outlined in the PBS, OT, psychology, and speech reports.
  • Cook nutritious meals according to the participant's dietitian-approved plan.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe living environment.
  • Accurately document daily activities, behaviours, and progress notes.
  • Engage the child in appropriate physical and recreational activities to promote regulation, structure, and wellbeing.
  • Respond effectively to behavioural escalations using calm, evidence-based de-escalation techniques.
  • Collaborate closely with the participant's family, management, and allied-health professionals.
  • Participate in regular debriefs, supervision, and ongoing professional development.

Candidate Requirements

  • Male applicant with fluent English (spoken and written).
  • Strong, confident, and active individual with the ability to remain calm and grounded in high-stress situations.
  • Physically capable and sports-oriented, able to keep up with an energetic child.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting children with Autism, ADHD, Intellectual Disability, and/or FASD.
  • Proven ability to maintain structure, cleanliness, and consistency within a home environment.
  • Excellent communication, patience, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow structured care routines and therapeutic recommendations.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Certificate III or IV in Disability, Community Services, or related field (preferred).
  • Minimum 1 year experience working with children with high behavioural support needs.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification (required).
  • Working with Children Check and NDIS Worker Screening Check (required).
  • National Police Clearance (required).
