Primary objective
The Assistant Director Psychology Services works within a Multi-Tiered System of Support framework and utilise psychological expertise in
education to build capacity of educators to facilitate access, participation and to maximise educational outcomes for students. Consultation,
comprehensive assessment, treatment planning and short-term interventions are provided to students with complex and challenging behaviour
concerns that are having a direct impact on educational outcomes.
Context statement
Student Wellbeing and Inclusion Programs and Services (SWIPS) is part of Inclusion and Engagement Services, which provides differentiated
support services to reform inclusion and improve engagement and access to learning for children, students and communities. SWIPS provide
advice, guidance and support to clients (schools) and stakeholders to ensure all children and students are welcomed into an inclusive learning
environment and are able to engage effectively with education and learn to their full potential.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide professional leadership in delivery of psychology services to schools with a focus on supporting students presenting with complex and
challenging behaviour concerns.
- Provide supervision to psychology practitioners and accredited supervision as Board Approved Supervisor for post graduate students and
registrars as required.
3. In collaboration with Professional Practice Leaders, supports implementation of policy and practice standards to ensure ethical, evidence based,
and best practice standards are maintained in the department.
4. Completes comprehensive assessments in relation to challenging behaviours and complex social functioning. This includes supporting schools
with responding to complex and challenging behaviours by conducting or supporting functional behaviour assessments and supporting
development of positive behaviour support plans.
- Builds capacity of school and Client Services staff to support student wellbeing, challenging behaviour and mental health through professional
advice and consultancy or training as required.
- Oversee the completion of Placement Reviews by psychology staff and assesses new applications for verification to determine eligibility for
enrolment in a special school or special centre.
- Report to leadership to advise on matters pertaining to the assessment of risk and/or support for complex behaviours.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency to practice as a psychologist.
2. Specialist knowledge and demonstrated experience in supporting complex and challenging behaviours, including expertise in assessment and
delivery of psychological interventions to support students at an individual, group and system level.
3. Demonstrated ability to provide clinical supervision to other psychologists and play a lead role in regional teams to support complex cases.
- Strong organisational skills and proven ability to be flexible and adapt to changing circumstances and priorities identified by the department.
- High level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse professional,
cultural and linguistic backgrounds, which includes ethnic, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
6. Strong leadership skills and demonstrated ability to contribute to development of policy and provision of professional advice to leadership
and/or executive teams.
Desirable
1. Post-graduate qualifications in Clinical or Educational and Developmental Psychology; and/or endorsement
2. Registration as a Board Approved Supervisor

Corporate conditions apply to this position. The applicant must have a current Working with Children Notice Clearance and hold or be willing to
obtain a current NT driver's licence. Visits to remote schools may necessitate travel by four-wheel drive vehicle on unsealed roads or light aircraft
and include overnight stays in remote communities of up to four days. Four-wheel drive training will be provided by the NT Department of
Education.
